The workshop held at Hagarlawe 2 Hotel in Jigjiga convened 30 participants, including 20 women and 10 men, to establish and strengthen an advocacy group dedicated to ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child Marriage (CM) in the region. representatives from Somali Regional Bureau of Women and Children’s affairs, women-led organizations, religious and traditional leaders, law enforcement, youth and community-based organizations attended the workshop. Through focused sessions, participants engaged in sensitization activities that raised awareness on the harmful effects of FGM and CM, fostered dialogue, and built consensus on collective action. The formation of this regional advocacy group aims to empower community members to be strong voices for change, driving ongoing campaigns and influencing policy to protect the rights and well-being of girls and women across the region.
