About

About WDRO

Women Development and Reliance Organization in Action (WDRO) is a non-governmental and not-for profit organization that works in the Somali region of Ethiopia to protect and advocate for women and civil rights.  Particularly marginalized women and children through developing overarching policies to guarantee their freedoms, rights, and social justice in accordance with local and international standards of law. WDRO itself was founded by differently abled women, and the organization is a woman led organization (WLO), seeking solutions from the perspectives of marginalized and hard to reach communities.

WDRO was established in June 2016 but officially registered and received its certification from the Federal Charities and Societies of Ethiopia in November 2020. The organization was established in Jigjiga by a professional woman with disabilities-led initiative who came together and raised funds to help the most vulnerable groups of the societies of disadvantaged and disability groups, mainly women and children affected by the conflicts, recurrent droughts that affected the whole nation, and the Somali Region, specifically the 2020 drought-affected population in the region.
